WWW Wednesday — 9 October 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday — 9 October 2024!!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish?

  • What are you currently reading?

  • And, what do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s see what I have been reading… (All images will link to Goodreads if you click on them. Potentially.)

what i finished

Oooh, challenge books are going to be my kryptonite, as per usual. I’m tracking my challenge reading through this spreadsheet I built, but my mood reading brain is protesting.

This week I got through one 12 in 12 challenge book (looking at you, Clo @ Cuppa Clo), and one… non-TBR and non-challenge book… oops?!

Three Mages and a Margharita by Annette Marie

Title: Three Mages and a Margarita
Author: Annette Marie
Series: The Guild Codex: Spellbound #1
Released: 14 Sep 2014
Read: October 2024
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I did enjoy this — but not as much as I was hoping. I thought the story was going in a certain way (the cover misled me), and then it didn’t, so that’s why only 3 stars. But I am going to continue the series in 2025.

Double Pucked by Lauren Blakely

Title: Double Pucked
Author: Lauren Blakely
Series: My Hockey Romance #1
Released: 5 Jun 2023
Read: October 2024
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
I didn’t enjoy this. I thought the story was under-evolved, and the writing felt a bit like fan-fic. The spice was also just awkward to read. I didn’t vivbe with the chemistry of the characters either.

what i'm reading

I am FINALLY getting to Blitz by Daniel O’Malley, which is the third book in The Checquy Files. The forst book in this series is The Rook, which I scream about all the time. It’s genuinely one of my fave fantasy / thriller / murder-mystery books, and a go to recommendation for who want to try fantasy.

I had put it off for ages because I thought it was a prequel set in WW2, and I just don’t love war time books. BUT, so far it seems to be one chapter WW2, and then one chapter current day. Which I was not expecting at all!!

I’m hoping some of my fave characters from books 1-2 make appreanaces (at this stage some have been referenced). And yes, I am kicking myself for not reading this sooner. But, that’s what happens when you get distracted by shiny new books all the time.

what's up next

The Sinister Booksellers of Bath by Garth Nix

Hahaha, I thought I was going to read The Sinister Booksellers of Bath by Garth Nix after Three Mages and a Margarita, but we’re two books past that now. It’s on my TBR for October so I will try and get to it next.

I hope this book doesn’t just sit in this spot for the whole month because that will make me sad (and also not want to read it).

I still ahven’t found my copy (slightly concerning), so if it doesn’t pop up soon then I’ll probably skip to Wolfsong by TJ Klune. Although Booksellers is a MUCH smaller book than both, Blitz and Wolfsong. Plus my copy of Wolfsong is a hardcover so it’s super heavy.
