Top 5… bookish maps

Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘bookish maps’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!

I can’t do this topic without first dragging you all off (again) to The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff. Illustrator of the maps in the series is Virginia Allyn. These maps are AH-MAZING. Seriously. I’ve considered buying art prints of these to hang on my walls. I mean, honestly, tell me you haven’t seen a prettier map!

Next on my list of fave maps is The Hundred Acre Wood map from the Winnie The Pooh books by A. A. Milne. These were my absolute favourite books when I was very young, and I still have my hardcover editions (with this map in them) from my early childhood.

I started reading high fantasy when I was twelve. In fact, I started reading Pawn of Prophecy, the first book in The Belgariad by David Eddings when I was 12. The below map is the world that this series is set in. (‘Young adult’ wasn’t really a thing when I was a teen…)

Lord of the Rings by Tolkien is another series I read as a child, and have fond memories of exploring the map as I was reading the series.

The Obernewtyn series by Isobelle Carmody probably has my second favourite maps ever. In the first book you only get a little piece of the map (I think it’s from Tor to Obernewtyn), and then as Elspeth explores the land, the maps get bigger and bigger. It reminds me of when you’re playing a video game and you can only explore parts of the map you’ve unlocked. I love it (and the series, it was amazing too)!

So, top 5 maps. I’m sure there’s probably a bunch I forgot, but these are definitely most of my favourites!

Until next time, happy reading 😊📚
