Top 5… books I’d save from a fire

Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘books I’d save from a fire’, and is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm, and you can check out her page here (please do, she’s amazing).

OMG SHANAH, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME??? Full disclosure: I nearly cried when I read this, because, I mean, only 5? All my Kristoff books and half my Stiefvater books are SIGNED so, like, can I do series? No, ok. FIVE books only. OMG, this is ridiculously hard.

Unbelievably (unless you know me), books one and two of this list are the SAME book. And by that I mean, I have four copies of Godsgrave and all of them are signed (in fact, they’re all made out to me as well); however, two of them are basically irreplaceable.

Version one – my Advanced Reader Copy of Godsgrave that I won through a Kristoff-run competition. The cover of this looks nearly the same as this, except all the hand drawn black and white is just black outline, and you can’t buy it.

Version two – my Waterstones black sprayed edges edition that I got sleep deprivation for buying because of course they had limited copies and went on sale at like 3am Australian time. Nevermind that I live in the same city as the author. Anyway, when I went to get it personalised, Kristoff drew a Mister Kindly in it for me because it was a Waterstones edition, so it’s like my most prized possession ever.

The Scorpio Races

My copy of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater because when she signed it for me she doodled a GIANT HORSE HEAD in it. And I love it so much. It’s also an AMAZING book, possibly my favourite of her stories. I think I might have posted a picture on instagram of it when it came in the mail. PS: If you’re a Stiefvater fan (like myself), you can order her books to come signed and personalised from Fountain Bookstores in the US. Postage basically costs your firstborn child, but it you desperately want a signed copy, this is the way to go about it.

My copy of Marked for the Hunt by Leah Chiasson would have to come. I read a beta book for Leah in 2017 after we became Insta-friends (that’s friends through Instagram) and I loved it so much she offered to send me a copy of her first novel, Marked for the Hunt. And of course I said yes. Leah wrote the most amazing inscription in the cover for me, and I nearly cried so that definitely comes with me. PS, the beta I read was one of my fave things I read in 2017 and would have made my top 10 list for the year, so when it does come out, prepare for me to RAVE about it forever.

The Hobbit

My mother gifted me her copy of The Hobbit when I was twelve. The version she gave me (yes, this version pictured) was published in 1966 and was a present for her twelfth birthday (which was not in 1966, she’s a bit younger than that). It’s a beautiful old edition and I love it so much. One day I hope I can pass it down to my own children, on the proviso that they keep their sticky mitts off the other four prized possessions listed above.

So there you have it, my top 5 most treasured, totally irreplaceable books.

Happy reading!

  1. I have a signed Stiefvater too. It’s one of the Raven Cycle books, and she doodled a raven. I love it! (Like Beware of the Reader, I also cheated and couldn’t limit mine. I admire your strength!)
